The Benito Menni Foundation and the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center located in Mahotas, both owned by Sisters Hospitallers, participate in the UN High Level Political Forum on sustainable development.
This July 12 at 1:30 pm (Madrid time) the Benito Menni Foundation and the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center of Mahotas (Hermanas Hospitalarias- Mozambique) we will participate in the side event organized by REDES and the Justice Coaliton of Religious within the official program of UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF).
The event entitled Faith Without Borders: Partnerships of Governments and Catholic Religious Organizations to Reduce Inequalities for the Post-COVID Era in Spain and Beyond, has as one of its objectives to Highlight the commitment of Catholic Religious congregations to the fulfilment of SDGs in Spain and other countries who will be presenting Voluntary National Reviews in 2021
This meeting will begin with messages from MA Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), AR Amayuelas, representative of the Futuro en Común civil society alliance, and Sr. A. Smerilli, undersecretary of the Dicastery for the Integral Human Development of the Vatican. The meeting will be moderated by Sr. Patricia Murray, representative of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), and Marta Iglesias López, member of the European confederation of humanitarian and development NGOs (Concord Europe).
Then different congregations and NGOs will present their experiences and projects in the field. Sr. Filipina Alfonso, will present the project Strengthening and expanding care in the field of mental health and disability in Mahotas (Mozambique) in the context of COVID-19 ”, which is being carried out by the Benito Menni Foundation and the Rehabilitation Center PsicosSocial de Mahotas (Hospital Sisters) with the support of AECID. This project seeks to guarantee continuity and a broader range of care in the field of mental health to prevent more serious situations and crises that hinder the social stability of people with experience of mental illness and / or disability, in the context of the pandemic of Covid-19. This initiative contributes to the achievement of SDG 3, mainly to goal 3.4: “By 2030, reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by one third through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.”

High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the main world forum for monitoring and reviewing the advances of UN Member States in achieving the Sustainable Development Objectives. The 2021 HLPF will focus on Sustainable Development Objectives 1 (eradication of poverty), 2 (hambre cero), 3 (good health and wellness), 8 (decent work and economic growth), 10 (reduction of losses inequalities), 12 (responsible consumption and production), 13 (climate action), 16 (peace, justice and solid institutions) and 17 (associations). This year will unfold between the 6th and 15th of July.
